'Izzy Faith V's Soft Gore subverts familiar tropes of the ‘magical girl’ genre to explore the inherent violence of womanhood.

Through a blend of hyper-feminine imagery and suggestions of violence, Soft Gore reflects on lived experiences of PMDD, dysmorphia, and the relentless social pressure to embody beauty, strength, and perfection. Drawing on shoujo manga and magical girl archetypes, V reimagines these figures as fractured and combative — caught in cycles of transformation, isolation, emotional volatility, and biological instability. Beneath their vibrant palettes and girlish visuals, there’s a quiet but persistent sense of violence; not always explicit, but internal, implied or lurking just out of frame.

In keeping with the ultra-feminine aesthetics of magical girl media, these layered, laser-cut works are sealed with a high gloss — a nod to the polished, glittering surfaces of transformation wands, compact mirrors, and bejewelled weapons. Pink mirrored acrylic appears in pieces, heightening the sense of unapologetic femininity. In others, clear acrylic acts as a direct reference to the now-obsolete practice of hand-painting celluloid animation cels. This layering and mixing of elements — signatures of V’s practice — blur the line between painting and object, amplifying the tension between surface allure and underlying violence' - Beinart Gallery

Soft Gore was created over a period of 6 months,
and was my most ambitious body of work to date.
The show sold out, which felt incredibly rewarding!
